LUBBOCK, Texas -
United Way kicked off its annual campaign. The goal for this year's campaign is $5,935,151.
Doug Hensley, Campaign Chair of United Way, said the organization is focusing on what he calls "multiple issues growing in the community." Specifically, child abuse and sex-trafficking.
"I don't know that folks here in West Texas understand that sex-trafficking is a very real issue in West Texas. It's more prevalent than people may think. we need to have it more on our radar as a community," Hensley said.
He said the literacy rate of underprivileged children is another problem the United Way works to resolve.
