Global Youth Service Day 2019

By Hannah Sutton-Adams, Engagement Manager for the Volunteer Center of Lubbock

It is the mission of the Volunteer Center of Lubbock to inspire a more engaged community by helping people find their purpose and act on it. On Global Youth Service Day, April 13, 2019, youth from around the South Plains area will be invited to find their purpose and act on it as they volunteer with local non-profits. Global Youth Service Day is one of the five national days of service coordinated annually by the Volunteer Center of Lubbock. This day celebrates the power of young people and the contributions they make to the world.

Various nonprofits in the Lubbock area have graciously asked youth to come serve by helping with cleaning, painting, organizing an Easter egg hunt for children, and much more. Among these agencies are Lubbock Area United Way partners such as the Volunteer Center of Lubbock and Salvation Army. Over 100 students are expected to volunteer for Global Youth Service Day in Lubbock.

Setting aside a special day for youth volunteerism empowers younger community members to care for and claim Lubbock as their own. This sets a precedent and creates leadership opportunities for tomorrow’s leaders.
