Child abuse awareness group kicks off Go Blue Lubbock campaign

The South Plains Coalition for Child Abuse Prevention kicked off its Go Blue Lubbock campaign to bring light to the issue of child abuse and neglect in the area.

The group hosted the kickoff event inside the Trust Conference Center at 98th Street and Slide Avenue.

Data from the group shows last year there were more than 1,100 cases of child abuse in Lubbock County, which is double the state average. Friday’s event highlights some of the efforts that are being made locally to prevent this issue.

The event also serves as a way to highlight Child Abuse Awareness Month, which lasts through April. Those with the coalition also encourage people to wear blue throughout April.
