2018 Agency Volunteer of the Year

By Tom Vermillion, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lubbock

As we all know volunteers are extremely important not only to United Way but also to its 23 partner agencies. We couldn’t do what we do every day at our agencies without them.

This year’s United Way Agency Volunteer of the Year Mr. Greg Freeman has been a volunteer for the Boys & Girls Club for many years.

He has a huge heart for children and a true volunteer spirit. Through the South Plains Lions Club he has volunteered at the Ted Phea Boys & Girls Club for over 30 years. He has been a Board member for over 15 years and has served in almost every capacity. Even wearing a duck costume for the Duck Race we did several years ago!

He is one of only three people that have served as Board President twice. At the end of 2018, we found out that our President-Elect could not serve their term, and he did not hesitate to volunteer to serve another year as President.

With the building of the new J.T. & Margaret Talkington Boys & Girls Club, it has been a very busy 2018! Not only has he been involved in raising funds for the new Club, but he also set the tone for the board of directors leading the way as a donor. He has been very instrumental in getting this new Club completed and scheduled to open in March 2019.

Greg Freeman has gone above and beyond the call of duty for his many hours and years of service on behalf of the Boys & Girls Club and the children that we serve. We would love to have several board members just like him. He has a huge heart for children and has given his time, talents and treasures to the Boys & Girls Club.

We couldn’t ask for anything more from him as a board member. He has done it all!

Please join us in congratulating the 2018 United Way Agency Volunteer of the Year Greg Freeman.
