Volunteers recognized at United Way Annual Meeting

Lubbock Area United Way held its Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Thursday at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

United Way recognized Norval Pollard with the Rita Harmon Volunteer Service Award. The award has been presented each year since 1993 to honor deserving individuals for a lifetime of community service. Pollard has been a dedicated community volunteer throughout his long career at the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and City Bank. He has filled numerous roles at United Way and other nonprofit organizations throughout the community.

Doug Hensley, 2018 Campaign Chair, announced that $5,824,983 has been contributed to help support United Way’s Community Partners. These contributions will impact more than 119,000 lives across the Lubbock Area in the coming year. Since 1946, more than $182 million has been given with more than $29.7 million being contributed in just the past five years.

Kelsey Tubb, 2018 Loaned Executive Chair, was named Campaign Volunteer of the Year. Tubb chaired the Loaned Executive program, leading 60 volunteers in raising $3.2 million of the campaign total.

Greg Freeman received the award for the Agency Volunteer of the Year for his support of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lubbock. Freeman has volunteered with the Boys & Girls Clubs for more than 30 years and has served as the president of the board of directors.

Other items on the agenda included United Way’s recognition of 2018 board members, and introduction of 2019 United Way board leadership, including Crystal Edwards, Board Chair; Jon Stephens, Board Vice Chair; Mike Nelson, Treasurer; Tony Lloyd, Campaign Chair; Kevin McConic, Community Impact Chair; Allison Matherly, Marketing and Communications Chair; and Tammi Wood, Planned Giving and Endowment Chair.

In addition, United Way announced new board members Robert Granfedlt, Mark Griffin, Jeff Klotzman, Dr. Tim Perrin, and Dr. Kathy Rollo.
