Vernita Woods-Holmes

Vernita Woods-Holmes

For our 75th-Anniversary, we had the opportunity to sit down with several former and current volunteers. Vernita Woods-Holmes served as a board member from 2003 to 2008. She was also actively involved in the Success by 6 initiative that focused on early childhood education and ensuring that students entered Kindergarten with the basic building blocks needed to be successful.

As a school board member for Lubbock ISD, when Vernita would quote the district's mission of "every child, every day," she would add the phrase "in every school." These three simple words are a testament to a legacy of striving for equity for all students no matter their background.
