The Heartbeat of the United Way Campaign

By Tony Lloyd, 2019 Campaign Chair

Volunteers are the heartbeat of the United Way’s Annual Campaign. Hundreds of individuals donate their time, talents, and passion to support the efforts of Lubbock Area United Way and its Community Partners. Together, they impact our neighbors, family, and friends of all ages, colors, and beliefs in every zip code of our community.

In the past few weeks, volunteers in both our Campaign Cabinet and Loaned Executive Division have started their work on the 2019 campaign. I can tell you that among this group of folks there is an unbridled passion to do right by the people in the Lubbock area. That passion comes from a collective choice to rise together rather than let even one of our neighbors stand alone. From providing better early childhood education, to confronting child abuse and sex trafficking, to addressing mental health needs in our community, we must continue to rise together and always choose to give hope wherever we go.

I would especially like to thank the good folks who volunteered to sit on this year’s Campaign Cabinet. Thank you to: Chair-Elect, AJ Martinez with Robinson Burdette Martin & Seright; Leadership Giving Chair, Chad Grant with Alderson Enterprises; Marketing Chair, Allison Matherly with Texas Tech University; LIVE UNITED Golf Tournament Chair, Matt Stephens with Prosperity Bank; Loaned Executive Chair, Matt Ernst with Fox34/Ramar Communications; Jumpstart Chair, Kelsey Johnson with the YWCA of Lubbock; Corporate Division Chair, Jon Stephens with SouthWest Bank; Special Gifts Chair, Butch Davis; Local Government Chair, Natalie Harvill with Lubbock County; SECC Chair, Jessica Carrillo with Texas Tech University; and Professional Division Chair, Andrew Curtis with Bigbee & Curtis.

The work of these talented volunteers and the hundreds of others who will join them will ensure that we rise together and that we continue to GIVE ∙ PEOPLE ∙ HOPE. They are the embodiment of Winston Churchill’s quote, “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.”
