Mission: To encourage children of single parent or non traditional homes to develop positive social behavior and respect for self and others by providing adult, one-on-one friendships through professionally trained staff. Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a nation-wide federation and the local agency has been serving the Lubbock community since 1970. Originally known as Big Brothers, the agency added Big Sisters in 1977.

Mentoring program
Big Brothers and Big Sisters are:
» At least 16 years of age (School or After-school program) & 18 years of age (Community Program)
» Have 1 hour per week to spend making a difference in the life of a child
» Positive individuals who will enjoy building a friendship with a child
» Volunteers who are willing to spend quality time with a child and make a difference in their lives
To become a Big Brothers/Big Sisters volunteer, the adult must also:
» Submit an application which includes: 3 character references, criminal background check release, and contact information
» Have a one-to-one interview
» Have reliable transportation
» Have a current drivers license
» Have automobile liability insurance
Little Brothers and Little Sisters are:
» Between the ages of 5 and 15 years of age
» Want or need an additional positive role model in their life
