Lubbock United Way partners with the Coalition of Community Assistance Volunteers (CCAV) each year to provide FREE income tax preparation and e-filing services for families of limited wealth. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program helps working individuals and families take advantage of all tax credits for which they qualify, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), Child Tax Credit (CTC), and education credits.
Last year in Lubbock, CCAV had over 70 community volunteers that contributed more than 2,200 hours of service, generating over $4.5 million dollars in tax refunds and helping more than 3,200 individuals and families receive free tax preparation services.
If your household earned less than $66,000 in 2017, you can file both your federal and state returns for free using MyFreeTaxes.com. This is the only free, national, online tax filing product offered by a nonprofit. United Way Worldwide has partnered with H&R Block to make this online service available to over 100 million U.S. taxpayers.
